President Obama trails former Governors Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich in this poll. Now I'm no Nate Silver, so I dunno the samples or demographics and how all that breaks down, but PPP is a pretty good outfit from what I have heard. I know it's early, and we have a loooooooong way to go till 2012, but just, WOW!

OK, Mitt Romney I can sort of understand being ahead of Obama right now thanks to his supposed "Mr. fix-it business credentials" (which really only consists of laying people off and outsourcing). Mike Huckabee I can understand being ahead because he is an amiable fellow with a populist-type agenda that is appealing to a good number of religious folk. Newt Gingrich I can understand because he was Speaker during an economically prosperous time and he takes every opportunity to point that out. Once the campaign begins though, they will tear out each other's throats over Romney's flip-flopping and "socialist" Massachusetts health care program, then Huckabee's "populism" and parolee issues, and finally Newt's congressional ethical issues and queasy personal past. So yeah they may all be ahead now but I wouldn't put too much stock in those numbers because the campaigns against them have not begun. But PALIN!?!?! Any attack against her only emboldens her cult-like fans, so I highly doubt any attacks from her primary opponents would affect her numbers.

Truth is, I understand her appeal to many right-wingers. She's good-looking, confident, ambitious, she hunts, she's a god-fearing woman, she's pro-life with a beautiful handi-capable boy to prove it, she talks like the righties and doesn't have a "fancy schmancy" Ivy League education just like they don't. I think she'd fit right in as a host with the airheads on "Fox & Friends" and would make for a fascinating reality show. But as a President?!?!?! Someone completely unqualified for the job? Someone who quit her term as Governor halfway through? Someone who went to 5 different colleges and won't say why or release her grades? Someone who saw an opening to shake down every hillbilly in America and grabbed it? Someone whose family fits in better at the "Jerry Springer Show" than the White House? Someone determined to continue the culture wars that have just about destroyed our political system? Someone who uses the same five words in every sentence: "commonsense", "Reagan", "God", "socialist" and "troops"? Someone who wants to run the country closer to the ideals of the Bible? Someone who won't be interviewed outside of the confines of Fox News? Someone who never held a press conference while running for Vice President? I could go on and on....

We already had one dunce who grabbed control of our country, a country that had a surplus and good relations with most of the world, and blew it all to hell, leaving us in a near-depression. And now 46% of this country wants to vote in his female equivalent? How can this be?

Awww nothing makes me happier than to see the Catholic Church exposed for the racket it is! You see the church has had a bad run this month, first the homophobic institution was caught up in a gay male prostitution scandal, then one-time Hitler Youth member Pope Benedict XVI himself, then known as Cardinal Joseph RATzinger, was discovered to have protected a pedophile priest in Wisconsin who may have molested over 200 deaf boys, and now the child molestation scandals are spreading to Ireland, Germany, Austria and beyond.

The Pope is doubling-down, if you will, by dismissing the scandals as nothing more than "petty gossip". Well good luck with that, your ass-holiness! There are now calls on you to resign and your approval ratings are dropping faster than an altar boy's gown in a confessional!

As a former Catholic, I agree the rat pope should be thrown out on his ass and the whole church investigated and prosecuted the same way we do the mafia! But if nothing changes (as is likely) perhaps this is the only way to protect kids in Catholic churches:

I'm sorry but it's way too convenient for them to start screaming about the debt soon after President Obama took office, considering he inherited the Great Recession from George W. Bush and needed the Stimulus to bring the economy back from the brink.

Also Ms. Gunnoe, Teabaggers themselves did use the "N-word" as well as called Barney Frank a "faggot" this past weekend, so how can you exactly claim the high ground here? You cannot. Lastly, I know the Teabaggers are god-fearing, seeing how the second of Glenn Beck's 9 Principles of his "9/12 Project", the commandments of the Teabagger set you could say, is "I believe in God and He is the Center of my Life", so when it comes to heath care I ask of them: What Would Jesus Do? From what I've heard he was a pretty generous fellow, one who wanted to care for the poor and downtrodden, so I doubt he'd treat very sick people like this:

Blog Wars erupt on the right

I check out quite a few blogs during the day, left and right wing-oriented, and I must say I am fascinated by what is happening with the right these days. Little Green Footballs, transformed by fledgling musician/cyclist Charles Johnson after 9/11 as a mostly anti-Islam blog, has taken a far more sensible path since Barack Obama was inaugurated, which of course doesn't sit well with the knuckle-dragging, bible-thumping, dead-enders that make up what's left of the Republican Party. I am by no means championing Johnson or his site here, I mean, let's face it, the man is batshit crazy, a Howard Hughes-save and drink his own urine-type if you will, but follow me after the jump to see the all-too-fun civil war he has sparked among the right-wing blogs......

In the past year or so, Charles Johnson has been focusing on the scourge of creationism and it's rising popularity among the right. Well, the bible is the end-all be-all for many conservatives, who pushed back and were purged in big numbers by the control-freak Johnson. Combine that with the rise of the birthers or "nirthers" and Ron Paulians, and Little Green Footballs was soon battling back against the craziest elements of the right. Well, these folks didn't go quietly, they have been pushing back hard on sites such as Michelle Malkin's Hot Air and Ace of Spades, where you can find attacks on Johnson in almost any thread these days. Well, Johnson is pushing back as well, by attacking these sites and their administrators, his former allies. So chummy under the George W. Bush Administration, these right-wingers have turned their fire on each other.....

I haven’t said anything about him before and hope not to again. I used to love his blog; it’s what inspired me to start blogging, so I get no joy from squabbling with him. But the sneering about “wingnut blogs” was too much. I eat plenty of crap for being an atheist and taking occasional swipes at creationism myself. I criticize Palin and Glenn Beck when a lot of other conservative bloggers don’t. Who is he to accuse me of being some talking-point machine?

so said Hot Air's resident blogger Allahpundit this week, firing back at Charles Johnson, who had the nerve to expose Hot Air's racist wingnut commenters in an ongoing series called "Hot Air Comments of the Day". An LGF reader alerted Johnson to the many racist comments directed at First Lady Michelle Obama as a "wookie" (amongst other names) last month, leading to Hot Air enacting a new comment policy which pissed the racists off even more because they lost an outlet to spread their hate. Well the attacks on Johnson continued at Hot Air and spilled over to Ace of Spades as well, so much so that those sites have devoted entire threads to letting people just bitch about and attack Johnson!

I could go on and on deconstructing the tit-for-tat that has broken out between these sites, but I'm sure you get the gist by now. Will the GOP be the party of Sarah Palin and Glenn Beck or will it return to it's more centrist days as the party of George H.W. Bush and Colin Powell? The right-wing blogs are the front-lines of this battle, so sit back, watch them scorch the earth and let's see who survives.....

March of the Sick Fucks

a sick scene took place in Oakland, CA yesterday, as 60 people marched to honor a cop killer and rapist of a 12-year old girl:

"OPD you can't hide - we charge you with genocide," chanted the demonstrators as they marched along MacArthur Boulevard, near the intersection with 74th Avenue where Mixon, 26, a fugitive parolee, gunned down two motorcycle officers who had pulled him over in a traffic stop. He killed two more officers who tried to capture him where he was hiding in his sister's apartment nearby.

What the fuck is wrong with these people? To taunt the police force as they are mourning four of their own is just as bad as the Westboro Baptist Church members protesting the funerals of our brave soldiers because *gasp* America doesn't execute all gays. It's ridiculous, pointless and evil, plain and simple. May these asshole marchers join their hero cop killer/rapist in hell very soon!

oh thank god! religions losing influence in the U.S.

The mind-fuck that is religion is losing influence in America, so says a nearly year-long study of 55,000 Americans. Some interesting findings:

"Fifteen percent of respondents said they had no religion, an increase from 14.2 percent in 2001 and 8.2 percent in 1990, according to the American Religious Identification Survey."

That is great, but that growth has slowed since that 6 point jump from 1990-2001. Pretty odd, considering that since that time we have had the Catholic Church pedophilia scandal and the 9/11 attacks, and if those haven't made you question the corruption and extremism borne out of religion nothing will. It's a sham, all of it! It also just gives people a handy excuse for their bigotry (hello, Prop. 8!).

"Catholics grew to about one-third of the adult population in California and Texas, and one-quarter of Floridians, largely due to Latino immigration, according to the research."
